On August 30, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, spoke about how he won the parliamentary primaries of his party.

He revealed that delegates vote for aspirants who speak their language, explaining that while people were wondering if he would contest, he was engaging delegates and selling his message to them.

John Dumelo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon on August 30, 2024, revealed how he won the parliamentary primaries of his party.

The actor, entrepreneur, and politician also disclosed that even though people underestimated his ability to win the primary, he had a firm grip on what he was doing, adding that he didn’t put many of the things he was doing on social media.

John. Dumelo added that many persons did not know that
he was working hard in the background to beat his closest contender.

‘What is important is the one-on-one dialogue with delegates, which I was doing,’ Dumelo said.

He stressed further that ‘when you go to the delegates and speak their language, they would understand you and they would vote for you”, he stated.

John Dumelo won the NDC primary election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in 2019 and also in 2023. He would be competing against Lydia Alhassan, who is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
