The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has rolled out a series of interventions aimed at addressing the high rate of unemployment among young people in the Upper West Region.
The interventions include the YEA’s Community Health Assistant Module, Skills Training, Prison Assistants, Garment and Apparel, Zoomlion, and the Business Assistant and Employment Modules.
Mr Yussif Alhassan, the Upper West Regional Director of the YEA, revealed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Wa.
He said the interventions were designed to equip young people with skills and resources to enable them to gain employment or start their businesses.
Mr Alhassan said 184 youth were engaged in the Community Health Assistant module, 41 youth in the Prison Officers Assistant; Skill training, 300; Garment and Apparel, 24; Business Assistant and Employment, 50; Zoomlion, 2,020; and Community Protection module, 175 youth.

eating jobs for the youth to transition into the world of employment so that they can meaningfully contribute to the country’s socio-economic development’, he emphasised.
Mr Alhassan noted that the interventions were tailored to address the specific needs and challenges of the region based on the opportunities available and expressed delight at the massive participation of youth in the interventions with over 2000 youth applying for recruitment into the various modules.
The YEA Regional Director also disclosed that beneficiaries of the interventions received a monthly allowance of GH?500.00, while those under skill training were given tools to establish themselves after completing their training.
‘The agency has a monitoring team that tracks progress and identifies challenges of all interventions to ensure effectiveness,’ he added.
Mr Alhassan told GNA that, the YEA in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) is set to implement the School Support Module, which would operate on three categories.
They were security and kitchen assistants for all Senior High Schools (SHS) and the community education teaching assistants for basic schools in the region.
He said this was expected to create more job opportunities for the youth in the region.
