Central African Republic: Protection monitoring – Quarterly analysis, July – September 2022

SUMMARY

CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT AND SECURITY SITUATION

 

12 prefectures covered by protection monitoring. 369 community relays and 392 members of protection committees. Security situation, persistent fuel shortages and budgetary constraints.

 

PROTECTION ALERTS

 

40 protection alerts. Armed men implicated in 85 percent of alerts.

 

RESPONSES AND ACTIONS

 

27 listening centers distributed in 12 prefectures covered by the Protection Monitoring project in response to the needs resulting from GBV incidents, including the referral system.

 

PROTECTION INCIDENTS (INDIVIDUAL)

 

4,039 individual incidents (up 34 percent) of which GBV accounts for 32 percent. Girls are the main victims of sexual violence (66 percent of cases). Decrease in incidents linked to transhumance coinciding with the rainy season.

 

PERCEPTION SURVEYS

 

1769 households and 170 community relays consulted. 12 percent of heads of households surveyed do not feel safe in their community. 72 percent of community relays confirm that protection incidents took place in their community during the month preceding the survey.
