Keta: NPP Parliamentary Primaries Elections begins successfully


New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary primary election has commenced successfully at the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) basic school park at Keta-Dzelukope in the Keta constituency of the Volta region.

The election would enable the party delegates to elect a candidate for the constituency in the 2024 general elections.

Mr Philip Adzomani, the Electoral Commission Chairman at Keta disclosed to the Ghana News Agency that all was set to deliver a peaceful and a successful exercise.

‘We are not facing any challenge as at now, the election has commenced successfully and we are expecting a smooth exercise throughout,’ he said.

Three aspirants namely Mr Selassie Godwin Teyie, Mr Godknows Blebu, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director at Keta, and Mr Goldberg-Grimm Courage Lekettey, Party’s Constituency Secretary, were earlier cleared by the party to contest after a successful vetting and balloting as required by the party’s constitution.

They remained hopeful that the delegates would give t
hem the nod to lead the party in the 2024 general election to unseat Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey,the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament in Keta Constituency.

Various party delegates who spoke to the GNA have so far expressed satisfaction about the exercise which commenced at 0700 and would end at 1400 hours.

The GNA also observed a heavy security presence at the election centre to ensure a safe and peaceful election with some delegates in queue to exercise their franchise.

A total of 22 electoral coordinators, five patrons, five executives each from 122 polling stations, and five council of elders were eligible to vote during the exercise.

Mr Selassie Godwin Teyie picked the first spot on the ballot whilst Mr Godknows Blebu and Mr Goldberg-Grimm Lekettey took second and third positions respectively on the ballot paper.

Voting underway in NPP Krachi East parliamentary primaries


Voting is underway in the NPP Krachi East Parliamentary Primary to elect a candidate to represent the party at the 2024 elections.

A total of 648 delegates are expected to cast their ballot at the Dambai College of Education, venue for the exercise.

There is heavy police presence and orderliness at the venue as Mr Kafui Klutse, Electoral Commission official expects the exercise to run without any incidents.

Mr Klutse, cautioned delegates against videoing and taking of pictures of their ballot as it was an offence.

He also told the delegates that they could use a Voter ID or a Ghana card for the voting.

The five aspiring candidates are leaving no stone unturned after crisscrossing the length and breadth of the constituency to intensify their campaigns in their bid to win the trust and confidence of the delegates to win the primaries.

They are Mr Timothy Kwasi Koki, Mr Humphrey Ankamah Sarpong, Mr Jacob Nlalil, Mr Micheal Yaw Gyato and Madam Pearl Akua Agyaman.

Voting has ended at the Akan Constituency at 1140hours, but the Electoral Commission Officials are waiting for regulation time, 1400 hours.

A total of 632 voters were expected to cast their ballots at the campus of the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), venue for the election.

Three candidates including; Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Tanko Issifu Yakubu, a Business Consultant with the Volta Lake Transport Ltd, and Tassah Abubakar Safiwu, a Farm Manager are contesting.

Madam Dina Nketia, Ekumfi District Director of the Electoral Commission, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the venue that polls started at 0700 hours, and will end at 1300 hours.

There is strong police presence at the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metro office, the voting centre for Odododiodoo Constituency, where delegates arrived early to cast their ballots.

A total 1,306 delegates are expected to vote at the Ashiedu Keteke Sub Metro Office where two voting centres have been created to speed up the exercise.

Mr Eric Okyere, the Presiding Officer, is hopeful that voting would close at 1400 hours.

Accra, Dec 2, GNA – Voting is underway in the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in constituencies where the party has no sitting MPs.

The election is taking place in 111 out of the 137 ‘orphan’ constituencies across the country with some aspirants going unopposed.

The election forms part of the Party ‘s preparation ahead of the 2024 General Election.

One delegate arrested for taking photographs of ballot paper


A young man has been arrested by the Police at the Tamale Cental constituency where the New Patriotic Party’s orphan constituency election is underway.

He was arrested for taking photographs of the ballot paper after casting his ballot, which is deemed an electoral offence.

His phone was taken away from him as well as the ballot paper, which was declared a spoilt ballot.

Mr Bismark Nteh, Tamale Metropolitan Director of the Electoral Commission, speaking to the media on the incident, said delegates were forewarned against taking photographs of their ballots as it was an illegal act.

He said delegates’ phones were taken away from them within the voting perimeter to prevent instances of displaying ballots after voting and indicated that the culprit must have hidden an extra phone for the agenda.

One other person was intercepted while attempting to capture the ballot paper after voting.

Nana Ama Dokua wins NPP Okaikoi North parliamentary primary


Mrs Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Agyei, Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency and a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, wins New Patriotic Party (NPP) Okaikoi North Primary.

She polled 341 votes out of the 828 total valid votes cast at the Sunnyside International School Polling Centre in the Constituency.

This was followed by Alberta Afia Asomaniwa Akoto with 228 votes, Fuseini Issah with 114 votes, Stephen Kofi Nyarko Adipa with 105 votes, Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie with 27 votes and Prince Owusu Mensah, six votes.

Mrs Asiamah Agyei expressed appreciation to the delegates and called for unity.

‘This is a traditional seat of the NPP which was lost, so I urge all of us to unite and rally behind the Party to win back the Okaikoi North parliamentary seat for NPP,’ she added.

In all, 846 delegates were expected to vote at the Centre. Voting started at 0720 hours and ended at exactly 1400 hours.

Jefferson Sackey wins Ablekuma Central NPP primary


Mr Jefferson Sackey, a Presidential Staffer, has won the Ablekuma Central New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary.

He polled 539 votes to beat three other contenders – Messrs Collins Amoah, Larry Anyetei Adjei and Ebenezer Nartey.

Mr Nartey, a former Member of Parliament, came third. He polled 441 votes.

Mr Amoah polled 493 votes while Mr Adjei polled 11 votes.

The total number of delegates expected to vote was 1,571. The total vote cast was 1492, with a total of valid votes, 1484 and rejected ballots, eight.

Mr Sackey admitted that the contest was a tough one especially because it included a former Member of Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Nartey.

He thanked the delegates and said he would not renege on his promises and the social contract that he had with them.

He also thanked the President and the Vice President for encouraging him when he shared his vision with them.

The Ablekuma Central seat is currently being occupied by the National Democratic Congress’s Dan Abdul-Latif.

He took the seat from the N
PP’s Ebenezer Nartey in the 2020 elections.
