Chief of Staff, Accra Mayor show love for Afua Asantewaa Aduonum


Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Chief of Staff and the Mayor of Accra, Madam Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, were among hundreds of Ghanaians who thronged Akwaaba Village, on the side of Kotoka International Airport, Accra on Wednesday to show Afua Asantewaa Aduonum their support.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum is on the fourth day of her mission to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon.

She hopes to beat the 105-hour record set by India’s Sunil Waghmare in 2012.

Gospel singers, Celestine Donkor and Gifty Osei were among a number of celebrities spotted at the Sing-a-thon.

Fr Lebel Memorial school honours A-ensonga Hearts


The Father Lebel Memorial Roman Catholic Primary School at Lungu in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, has honoured A-ensonga Hearts, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), for its support to the school.

The NGO, led by its Founder and Executive Director, Ms Kenndicta A-ensonga Ajene, presented 35 dual desks to the school, and 50 tote bags designed by Vicky Pinto clothing in Accra and donated to A-ensonga Hearts as its contribution to the NGO’s quest to ensure quality education in deprived areas.

Management of the school, in a citation read by Mr Thomas Azure Alukuke, Head teacher, at a ceremony to hand over the furniture, extended appreciation to the NGO for its ‘Benevolent donation of 35 dual desks to our school’.

‘This generous act reflects not only a commitment to educational advancement, but also a shared vision of fostering a conducive learning environment for our students. The impact of such a thoughtful gesture extends far beyond the physical realm of the desks themselves,’ the Managemen
t said.

According to Management, the gesture by the NGO resonated in the hearts and minds of every student who would experience an ‘enriched educational journey.’

It noted that ‘A-ensonga Hearts has not only provided furniture but has contributed to the cultivation of a nurturing space where knowledge flourishes and dreams take root’.

Management said A-ensonga Hearts’ unwavering support and dedication to the betterment of education was commendable, adding that ‘This donation is a testament to the power of collective efforts in shaping the future of our students.

‘Thank you for being a beacon of hope and catalyst for positive change in the realm of education,’ Management said in the citation.

Mr Francis Awan Ndaago, a representative of the Catholic Education Unit, thanked A-ensonga Hearts for the support, and called on stakeholders in the community to ensure that the furniture was protected to serve the purpose for which they were donated.

Ms Ajene and her team thanked the Management of the school for th
e recognition of their effort to bring quality basic education to the area and urged the pupils to take safe care of the desks and study hard to contribute to nation building in the future.

She advised them to shun deviant behaviours, respect their teachers, parents and guardians at home and heed advice from them.

The Executive Director acknowledged the support of her friends, stakeholders, and members of the public towards the supply of the furniture which she said was part of the NGO’s ‘Furniture Project,’ aimed to supply furniture to deprived schools in rural communities.

She recalled that A-ensonga Hearts with support of members of the public, extended the project to schools in the Bongo and Talensi Districts in the Region, and appealed for continuous support to scale-up the project to other deprived schools in the Region and beyond.

5 Star FC have been crowned champions of the maiden Choplife ?Foundation Celebrity Charity Gala after beating Choplife FC 3-1 on penalties at the TEP’s football park, Teshie on Sunday 24th December,2023.?

The gala, organised by renowned musician Mr. Eazi brought together hundreds of entertainers from the creative industry to support Ghana’s health system through sports and also mark the Christmas festivity.?

It was a tough competition between the four participating teams who were eager and hoping to earn the bragging rights and trophy.?

Choplife FC started the game on a good note with a stunner from Daniel Abbey which was enough to seal their 1-0 win over Small God FC.?

The story of who would face Choplife FC in the finals continued between 5 Star FC and Ghana DJ’s FC in a fierce battle.?

Ghanaian musician, King Promise came to the rescue of his side, 5 Star FC registering his name twice on the scoresheet before former Hearts of Oak man, Emmanuel Nettey also added to the woes of Ghana DJ’s FC with a con
vincing 3-1 victory.?

The finals, between 5 Stars FC and Choplife FC was one to commend as both sides kept their eyes on the trophy.?

5 Stars FC came into the game with King Promise as a leading striker and the support of Black Stars defender, Gideon Mensah and Emmanuel Nettey whereas Choplife FC was also led by Mr. Eazi, Hans Nunoo Sarpei, former VfL Stuttgart man and a long list of top talents.?

The two teams could not be separated after an exciting 30 minutes of play as King Promise managed to record his third goal in two games whiles Hans Sarpei also told his side of the story with an equalizer for Choplife FC.?

5 Star FC finished the assignment on penalties after beating their opponents 3-1 to be crowned champions of the 2023 Choplife Foundation Celebrity Charity Gala.?

The gala brought together some former Black Stars legends, Anthony Baffoe, Otto Addo and Laryea Kingston.?

Mr Eazi, one of Africa’s best artist and brain behind the celebrity charity gala expressed appreciation to his colleagues for
coming out in their numbers to support the initiative.?

He said the reason for the gala is to get his friends to commit to support the less privileged in society and help improve the health system in the country.

?Mr. Nii Armah Ashong-Katai, Public Relations Officer of Choplife Gaming speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports expressed excitement having seen the maiden edition of the competition turn out to be successful.?

He said the event would be a yearly one as part of efforts of contributing to the creative industry and promoting sports.

He said tournaments of this kind serves as opportunities to unearth young talents who would represent Ghana years to come.?

Police Men/Army Women win 2023 Super Volleyball Championship


The Ghana Police Men and Army Women teams emerged winners at the just ended 2023 Super Volleyball Championship held at the Ghana International School in Accra.

The Police Men defeated El Wak Wings while the Army Women beat Air Force Women in an exciting final to win Gold.

However, Army Men and Police Ladies took the bronze medals respectively.

Six clubs represented each group of two and played against each other.

Meanwhile, stakeholder of Ghana Volleyball are planning to build their own state of the art Volleyball Court with all the necessary facilities, such as offices for administrative work and catering as well as dressing rooms.

The officials of the Ghana Volleyball Association and the Greater Accra Regional Association commended Mr. Mohammed Awudu Aputeog for his vision and support for players and people who love Volleyball.

Mr. Aputeog promised that next year would be another bigger one because the organisers have studied all the challenges and would make adequate preparation.

National Sports College to introduce professional Diploma Courses


The National Sports College will from January 2024 run Professional Diploma courses in Sports Management and Sports Coaching.

This was made known by the leadership of the college at the closing ceremony of the Sports Governance and Leadership course recently held in Kumasi and Tamale for technical men and women in the Sports industry.

Mr. Collins Eduafo, acting Head of Technical for the College said, they were on a mission to train as many technical men and women in the sports industry nationwide who would gain insight in the field.

He said as part of preparations to make this effective, NSC had created five zones where the training programmes would be held.

‘The training programme for the first zone will be held in Winneba targeting participants from Central, Western and Western North Regions. Zone Two will be held in Kumasi for participants from Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo and the Bono East Regions.

The Tamale edition for the Northern, Savannah, Upper East and West and North East Regions. The next course wou
ld be held for the Volta and Oti regions in Ho at a date to be communicated soon,’ he said.

The Acting Head of Technical announced that resource persons for the course would be Dr. Austin Luguterah, a Sports Management Specialist and a Head of Department for Physical Education and Sports Studies, at the University of Ghana and Professor Daniel Apaak, a Sports Management specialist, and Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast.

AFCON 2023: Cameroon’s oponent Guinea names final 25 man squadBe good ambassadors for the 13th Africa Games – LOC urges

The Indomitable lions first group C oponent Guinea has named their final squad containing 25 players.

Guinea who will be making their 13th appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations will face the mights of defending champions Senegal, Cameroon, and Gambia in the group stage.

The squad carefully selected and announced by coach Kaba Diawara on December 25th, will play their first match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the Yamoussoukro Stadium on January 15, 2024.

Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 13th Africa Games has urge Ghanaians to help publicize ahead of the one of the best events the continent has ever witnessed.?

Ghana won the bid to host the continental showpiece in August 2018 and had since been preparing towards it with an intensive awareness creation in a bid to whip up the interest of Ghanaians.

The LOC Chairman speaking after the 13th Africa Games Christmas Carnival said it was important for Ghanaians to take advantage of the opportunities the tournament offers for social and economic progress.

‘We have to organize ourselves very well and take advantage of the opportunities. We should be good ambassadors. Those in businesses should position themselves well to take advantage of the Africa Games.’?

He noted that the 13th Africa Games would bring individuals from over 54 countries whose engagements would help boost Ghana’s economic growth.?

He said the LOC was doing its best to involve Ghanaians over the co
untry in the games, hence their reason for organizing the float and Christmas Carnival in Accra and Takoradi respectively.?

Dr. Ofosu Asare thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his support throughout the campaign.

‘The Africa Games is for all of us, so we should all help in hosting the games,’ he urged.?

The continental party is scheduled for Friday March 8, 2024, to Saturday March 23, 2024.?
