Sissili: An awareness campaign and free screening for breast and cervical cancer was launched this Thursday, October 16 in Leo, at the initiative of the Nando Regional Health Directorate. This activity, which continues until October 17, is part of the celebration of the month of Pink October.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was organized in collaboration with the Leo Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA), and the Nando mobile clinic welcomed several dozen women into the health facility. The aim is to raise awareness among women about the risk factors and means of prevention against these pathologies, while screening for precancerous lesions.
“We came to raise awareness among women so that they can really get screened early because these are pathologies when they are screened early, the chances of survival are high so we encourage women to do self-examination and refer to health centers,” said the head of the mobile clinic, Dr. Aziz Lankoande.
On site, participants were informed about the importance of early detection. The medical team also demonstrated best practices for breast self-examination. The campaign was also a boon for pregnant women, who were able to benefit from ultrasound examinations at the mobile clinic.
All women received free screening for precancerous cervical lesions, while those aged 40 and over received an additional mammogram. “I just finished my mammogram and I am reassured that I have no breast problems; I thank the first authorities in our country who had the initiative of these mobile clinics to save us women,” testified Awa Dabire nee Yago.
For the organizers, this action will help reduce the mortality rate linked to female cancers, which are often overlooked in rural areas. This is the third visit of the Nando mobile clinic to the Sissili province since its inception.
