Ouagadougou: Burkinabe media are reporting today on the arrival in Burkina Faso of the presidents of the parliaments of Niger and Mali, alongside the visit of the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, to the Faso Mebo holiday camp.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the public daily Sidwaya headlines the event with “AES Confederation: Presidents of the Parliaments of Niger and Mali in Ouagadougou.” This visit is part of a meeting to review preliminary drafts related to the confederal sessions of the Parliaments of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), scheduled for September 18-19, 2025, in Ouagadougou.
The Honorable Dr. Mamoudou Harouna Djingarey, President of the Consultative Council for the Refoundation of Niger, shared with online media Burkina 24 that an additional treaty is required to establish the alliance parliament as per the original AES treaty. He noted that technicians have already drafted a treaty and rules of procedure. The meeting of the three presidents of parliament aims to finalize these documents for presentation to the heads of state for final adoption, leading to the official creation of the AES parliament.
Online media Lefaso.net reported on comments from the president of the National Transitional Council of Mali, General Malick Diaw, highlighting that this meeting is a significant step towards establishing the AES parliament. The AES parliament is expected to play a crucial role in building common governance and strengthening solidarity among the three countries committed to closer integration.
The Burkinabe media also covered the visit of Minister Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo to the Faso Mebo holiday camp. Online media Fil Infos detailed the minister’s activities, including visiting workshops, participating in paving stone laying, sharing a meal with campers, and encouraging children to become upright, honest, and hardworking citizens, referred to as “Burkimbi.”
State-run daily Sidwaya reported the Government Spokesperson’s message to the campers, urging them to honor their parents and emphasizing that “Culture is to man or society what roots are to plants and trees.”
Additionally, the launch of the 6th edition of International Identity Day activities in Ouagadougou by Minister of Security, Mahamoudou Sana, was reported. According to Sidwaya, the events, themed “Integrated harmonization of identity and travel documents in the AES area,” aim to address the current situation, challenges, and opportunities for free movement of people and goods.
Minister Mahamoudou Sana emphasized the importance of the fundamental right to an identity. Burkina 24 highlighted Arzouma Daouda Parfait Loure, Director General of the ONI, who stated that the day serves as a platform for collective reflection, experience sharing, and formulating concrete recommendations for improving the identification system.
