Ouagadougou: Koudougou welcomed the arrival of the first stage of the 36th edition of the Tour du Faso. The initial stage of this renowned cycling event connected Ouagadougou to Koudougou over a span of 120.28 kilometers.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the 63 cyclists maintained a steady rhythm, completing the route with an average speed of 42.232 km/h. Driss El Alouani from Morocco claimed victory, finishing ahead of Burkinabe Souleymane Kone and Belgian Yaxono Smet at the finish line situated in front of Koudougou town hall. However, the inaugural stage did not qualify participants for the yellow jersey.
The event was highlighted by the attendance of several notable figures, including the Minister of Sports, alongside his colleagues from Justice and Humanitarian Action. The Governor of the Nando region and representatives from local organizations were also present.
In addition to the race, the day was marked by a charitable act. Cycling enthusiast Hamado Zoungrana donated ten bicycles and two cases of spare parts to the governor of the Nando region. This contribution aims to aid young cyclists in the area.
The cyclists will reconvene tomorrow in front of Koudougou town hall at 7 a.m. for the second stage, which will cover a distance of 156.20 kilometers from Koudougou to Boromo.
