Mouhoun/Evaluation of Transparency in the Extractive Sector: SP-ITIE Raises Awareness Among Stakeholders in Safane

Ouagadougou: The second vice-president of the special delegation of the commune of Safane, Moumouni Doro, chaired an awareness-raising meeting organized by the Permanent Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (SP-ITIE). This meeting, held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, was part of the process of evaluating the contribution of stakeholders to transparency in the extractive sector.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of mission, Amara Bathily, announced the upcoming deployment of an innovative and endogenous IT tool. This tool is designed to enable a better assessment of the various stakeholders in the extractive sector, enhance accountability, and ensure more transparent and inclusive mining governance.

The meeting brought together administrative and municipal authorities, traditional and religious leaders, as well as local gold miners. Participants engaged in constructive exchanges, welcomed the initiative, and expressed concerns regarding interactions between local communities and mining stakeholders. They called for the strengthening of consultation frameworks to promote a permanent and peaceful dialogue around the governance of extractive resources.

It is important to note that this awareness campaign, initiated by SP-ITIE, will continue in approximately forty municipalities across the country, including 18 regional capitals. The campaign’s objective is to broaden the scope of action and to sustainably anchor the principles of transparency, participation, and good governance in areas affected by mining.
