Tapoa: Unir pour Agir Association Provides Three Boreholes to Diapaga IDPs

Tapoa: The Association Unir pour Agir (UPA) handed over three boreholes to IDPs in sectors 1, 5, and 4 of the city. The ribbon-cutting and symbolic handover ceremony took place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Diapaga.

According to Burkina Information Agency, three boreholes equipped with fountains and drinking troughs, worth 18,000,000 CFA francs, were donated by the Association Unir pour Agir (UPA) to promote sustainable development and improve the living conditions of local communities.

The association’s officials stated these boreholes are part of ongoing efforts to improve access to drinking water in areas affected by the security crisis in Burkina Faso. The NGO La Brique, in partnership with the Association Unir pour Agir (UPA), has been implementing a multi-sector water, sanitation, and hygiene project in the commune of Diapaga since 2024.

Several activities have already been carried out, including the construction of 480 latrines, awareness-raising on good practices in water use, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as the rehabilitation and construction of boreholes to improve access to water in these areas.

With these three boreholes, IDPs and host communities benefit from access to drinking water, reducing the distances they travel and allowing them to focus on other economic activities.

In his speech, the prefect’s representative, Soali Ouali, emphasized the importance of collaboration between different stakeholders to meet the needs of vulnerable populations. The beneficiaries, through their representative Coulidiati Ounteni, expressed their gratitude to the UPA for this initiative, which improves their daily lives and gives them hope for a better future.

It should be noted that this gesture by the UPA comes three months after the delivery of 50 bicycles to internally displaced girls in vulnerable situations, to facilitate their mobility between their place of residence and school.
