MPs to approve Draft Labour Act in final global vote by May 25

National Assembly will hold the final global vote in favour of the Draft General Labour Law on May 25.

The information was confirmed Thursday by the first secretary of the Board of the National Assembly, Manuel Lopes Dembo.

The MP said so to the press at the end of the conference of the leaders of the Parliamentary groups, which set the agenda of the 7th Extraordinary Plenary Meeting of the legislative body.

The Draft Law, of the Executive initiative, reintroduces, among others, the employment contract for unlimited period as a rule and the only form of building the legal and labour relations.

Laying of first stone for construction of Tetelo mine

The foundation stone for the construction of the Tetelo copper mine was laid Thursday by the minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo.

The investment of the prject, located in the municipality of Maquela do Zombo, northern Uíge province, in an area of 3.5 kilometers, is estimated at US$275 million.

The construction of the copper mine is expected to last 27 months and will have the capacity to produce, as of 2024, 4,000 tons of copper/day, totaling 30,000 tons of contained copper/year.

Of the initiative of the Shining Star Icarus (SSI) Firm, the construction of mining project will be in charge of the companies SinoHydro and China Power.

Addressing a foundation stone laying ceremony, the minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said it was the first copper mine in the country, adding that the project complies with all international procedures.

Angola wants Czech investment in agro-food processing

Angolan Government is working on strengthening partnership with the Czech Republic aimed to attract investment, increase production and agro-food processing.

The country intention was expressed by the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João on Wednesday.

The minister was speaking at a business forum between the Czech Republic – Angola, sponsored by the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX).

He said the Czech businesspeople can invest in Angola in irrigation systems, production of seeds and fertilizers.

“We are not talking in a generic way, we are also talking about mobility, from the assembly of trucks, electrical (public transport), which can be assembled in the Special Economic Zone. We are also talking about the agribusiness industry and other investments that are made in Angola”, he highlighted.

He is of the view that Czech businesspeople can also help boost the process of replacing thermal energy sources with clean sources “as are the cases of wind and solar”.

The Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, João Cunha, said that Angola also seeks investment from the Czech Republic in grains (corn, rice, wheat and soy), tropical fruits, exploration and local transformation of wood and agricultural mechanization.

In turn, the Secretary of State for Commerce, Amadeu Nunes, said there is conditions for the entrepreneurs to set up their industries in the country and explore the potential of the entire region of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), benefiting from the comparative advantages that the country presents.

The CEO of the Board of Directors of the Angolan Debt and Values Exchange (BODIVA), Walter Pacheco, in his speech, spoke of the opportunities in the privatisation programme and the evolution of the Angolan stock exchange.

Whereas, the Director of International Relations of the Confederation of Industry in the Czech Republic, Lucas Martin, said that the covid-19 pandemic had prevented personal contact with Angola.

He defended the need to make up for the lost time and resume this relationship between the Czech Republic and Angola.,

“We are going to mobilise our associates and introduce them to potential partners in Angola”, assured Lucas Martin.

The Executive Director of the ZEE, Adriano Celso Borja, said that he established contacts so that “companies can participate in the infrastructure of new lots, with electricity, and for the installation of the manufacturing units in the ZEE”.

According to Celso Borja, the businessmen “expressed interest in participating in the upcoming Filda 2023 Edition next July to display their potential in their areas and getting to know the Special Economic Zone”.

The ZEE’s manager said “the entrepreneurs of the energy sector guarantee that in the next three months they will mobilise more partners to develop the paths for infrastructure in the reserve of Viana-based ZEE”.

The AIPEX CEO Lello Francisco, stressed that events of the kind should be intensified in order to help publicise the Angolan market.

Angolan delegation has been visiting the Czech Republic since Monday,

Angola and the Czech Republic intend to reinforce bilateral cooperation in the areas of investment, defence, trade and exchange of visits at the highest level.

Currently, the two countries are negotiating legal instruments such as the agreement on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports, the memorandum of understanding on political consultations and the agreement on economic and industrial cooperation.

Angola and the Czech Republic established political-diplomatic ties on January 1, 1993. In 2006, the two states signed a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation programme for development.

Champions league: Onana making history with Inter

Andre Onana has set a record as the first Inter Milan goalkeeper to have seven clean sheets in a single UEFA Champions League campaign.

The Cameroonian and team Inter keeper, defeated home rivals AC Milan 2-0 to take the lead after the first match of their two-legged UCL semi-final. The second leg comes up on May 16.

Inter Milan’s outing on Wednesday counted as Andre Onana’s 11th Champions League game this season with a total of 44 saves.

The 27-year-old has immensely impressed fans in 37 games across all competitions for Inter. He has 8 clean sheets in 22 matches for the Serie A club in the local championship.

It should be noted that Onana has spent barely ten months with the club. He was signed on free transfer from Ajax last summer where his goalkeeping equally received much praise.

Andre Onana resigned from the Cameroon national team in December 2022 during the World Cup in Qatar. His departure happened after a misunderstanding with head coach Rigobert Song.

There have been calls for the goalkeeper’s return although he is yet to react.

South West Regional Assembly donates equipment to hospital units

The South West Regional Assembly has this May 10th, donated a consignment of medical equipments and supplies to hospitals in the region.

This initiative which is in partnership with Medshare International is aimed at assisting the needy and those who cannot afford to pay for their treatment when sick.

According to the President of the South West Regional Assembly Bakoma Zaccheus Elango, Medshare International made a donation of a 40 feet container of medical supplies and medical equipment.

“We went to the U.S. in September last year and came back with two 40 feet containers. Our partners Medshare made a donation of a 40 feet container of medical equipment. One of our sisters in the diaspora equally offered us another 40 feet container of supplies and medical equipment free of charge,” he said.

“Our partners want to know what have become of the donations. So today we will donate and report back to them indicating that we have distributed to the needy communities and tell them what they have been used for. We have identified our 29 health units which we will distribute to,” he added.

The President has therefore encouraged and begged on the medical staff to collaborate with them when tangible information is needed especially on the needs of the hospital so as to be able to get assistance from partners.

Going by the Regional Delegate of Public Health in the South West, Dr Eko Eko Flibert medical supplies and medical equipment are not for sale, they are to be used for the needy population who cannot afford to pay for their treatment.

“Please we are not giving you to go and sell, we are giving you to go and use for the needy. There will be persons who will not be able to pay for anything. Use those commodities for them, it will help us to solve a lot of problems especially reduce the rate of maternal mortality,” he stated.

The Regional Delegate also highlighted that this donation is coming right on time as the Minister of Public health is embarking on a tour for the universal health coverage.

It should be noted that their partner MedShare is a national non-profit organization that recovers surplus medical supplies and equipment from the United States hospitals and manufacturers and redistributes them to needy hospitals in developing countries.

Kwame Baah: The young music entrepreneur making great strides with innovative platforms

Music business in Ghana continue to make steady progress, and Bismark Kwame Baah is one of the few young music entrepreneurs helping artistes benefit from their music.

He recently created the ‘Get the Artistes Platform,’ which is Ghana’s first online artiste booking platform for event organisers in the entertainment industry.

According to Kwame Baah, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Yve Digital, a music aggregation platform, his love for music started at a young age, and he gained recognition as a musician in Kumasi before making the move to Accra in 2018.

‘My dream initially was to be a musician, but as time went on, I felt I could do something else related to music. So I decided to venture into distributing and publishing music.

‘I have worked with the likes of Fameye, DBlack, Okyeame Kwame, Epixode, Amerado, Yaw TOG, Wendy Shay, Sista Afia, and many other musicians in the area of music distribution, and we have made great strides,’ he said in an interview.

Kwame Baah further revealed that the Yve Digital platform has helped many of these artistes to boost their presence on various streaming platforms, racking up impressive numbers.

He stated that Yve Digital, since its establishment, has racked up more than 300 million streams for various artistes signed onto the platforms, and he was poised to reach a billion streams in the next few years.

Kwame Baah, who is a former student of the University of Education, Winneba, previously worked with one of Ghana’s finest production houses, Farmhouse Productions.
