Angola’s minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication Mário Oliveira praised Thursday the Angolan journalists for SADC Media Award 2023 win, and said that the initiative is an inspiring reason for all professionals in the sector.

The country won the Press category, with the journalists from the Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) Francisca Augusto and Venceslau Mateus, authors of the report “Benguela boosts economy with infrastructure in the Lobito Corridor”, which obtained 74.13 points, out of 100 possible.

Journalist Luís Mamana of RNA (Angola National Radio) won the Radio category with the report “Mbanza-Congo World Heritage makes the people of Southern Africa proud”, with 74.46 points, out of a possible 100

The professional Ernesto Bartolomeu – Angola Public Television (TPA) – was distinguished with the report “Canal do Cafu: Combat drought in southern Angola”, which obtained an average of 71.71 points, out of 100 possible.

According to the minister, winning the categories of Press, Radio and Television is a living testimony of the contribution of the Angolan professionals in the evolution of the Media in the country and in the southern region, based on cross-cutting, constructive, inclusive and participatory communication.

The official stressed the impact of the reporting, not only at the national level but also in the context of Southern Africa, demonstrating professionalism, dedication and commitment to quality communication, helping to shape public awareness and positively influence the Angolan nation and the SADC region.

Mário Oliveira urged all Angolan journalists to continue to participate in the SADC Journalism Prize, telling stories, informing and educating the public, in the four regulatory categories and in different genres.

“May this exuberant success continue to inspire Angolan journalists to create, innovate and move the minds and hearts of all who read, listen and watch them”, stated the head of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication in Angola.

The SADC Media Prize was established in 1996 to recognise the best journalistic works and disseminate real information about the process of cooperation and regional integration, rooted in common values and principles.
