The people of Abanman near Ajen-Kotoku in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have launched a three-year development plan to face-lift the town.
The projects in the first phase of the plan include the construction of a daycare centre and a six-classroom block for primary school pupils to alleviate their plight from travelling far distances to access education.
Nii Kortey Boi II, Chief of Ofankor and Head of Abanman made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the celebration of the Homowo festival of the chiefs and people of the town.
He said the second phase of the projects would be the provision of potable water and the rehabilitation of roads in the town and that the programme would be undertaken through self-help and communal labour.
Nii Kortey Boi appealed to the Ga West Municipal Assembly to support them with building materials while calling on philanthropic organisations and non-governmental organisations to assist in enhancing the living conditions of the peop
le.
He urged parents and guardians to enroll their children in school and admonished the youth to avoid engaging themselves in political activities, but rather take their education seriously to become responsible leaders in future.
The Ofankor Chief called on politicians to pay much attention to the development of the rural areas whenever they were voted into power instead of focusing on the cities to the detriment of the vulnerable people.
