Promotion of peace: Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo calls for recourse to cultural values

Ouagadougou, March 13, 2023 (AIB) – The Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, on Monday called on Burkinabe people to use cultural values to consolidate peace and social cohesion. in a context of insecurity.

“In the current context of our country, we must call on our culture and our cultural values to consolidate peace, social cohesion, national unity for the economic and social development of Burkina Faso”, declared the minister in in charge of Culture, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

According to him, the Burkinabè Transition is aware of the central role played by culture in the consolidation of living together in Burkina and this is what justifies the holding of the 20th of the National Week of Culture (SNC) scheduled for April 29 to May 6 in Bobo-Dioulasso under the theme “Cultural diversity, ferment of national unity”.

Ouédraogo was speaking Monday in Bobo-Dioulasso, the country’s second largest city, during the opening ceremony of the orientation workshop on the SNC, the Regional Culture Weeks (SRC) 2023 and the SNC 2024 of his department.

“I hope that the dynamism and professionalism of each actor here will contribute to meeting the challenge of organizing this SNC and to proposing other alternatives for future editions”, he added. .

The first manager of the department in charge of Culture indicated that after the missed meeting of 2020 and 2022, the SNC wants to be that of resilience, adapted to the context, while keeping the main lines of the event. .

According to the Minister, it is a cultural institution anchored in the national and international socio-cultural landscape and which remains a meeting place for giving and receiving.

“I would like to ask from the bottom of my heart, the support of the customary, traditional and religious authorities, the commitment of all the Living Forces of the Hauts-Bassins region and the support of the population to make this edition a memorable success,” he urged.

As a reminder, it was in 2018 that Burkina Faso held its last edition of the biennial of culture because of the security situation it is going through.
