Ouagadougou: On the occasion of the civics and patriotism day organized Saturday by the Bittou Youth Association for Sport and Leisure (AJSL), hundreds of children were made aware of citizenship, social cohesion, respect for traffic rules, and the dangers associated with drug use. The meeting, held at the Bittou youth center, was chaired by the first vice-president of the special delegation of the commune, Aoua Kambone, who represented the president of the special delegation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, AJSL Secretary General Abdoul Hadi Zoungrana stated that the initiative aims to bring children together around a healthy mindset and encourage them to abandon behaviors considered irresponsible. He highlighted the role of authorities in teaching children how to live better in society, emphasizing their importance as future citizens of Burkina.
The day's speaker, the Bittou gendarmerie commander, explained in the Moore language the importance of respecting the highway code, exercising caution on major roads, and understanding the dangers of drug use. He also highlighted the risks associated with drowning and fire, aiming to cultivate a sense of safety among the young participants.
Blaise Zoungrana, another speaker at the event, focused on social cohesion and the importance of unity and traditional practices. Meanwhile, Moubarik Guessongo encouraged a sense of patriotism and respect for laws and authorities, explaining the symbolism behind the national colors to the children present.
The event's theme, "Youth and civic-mindedness for an emerging Burkina: behavior, respect for road traffic rules, and the fight against drug use," was met with enthusiasm that delighted the organizers, marking a successful day of awareness and education.
