Burkinabe Film Week 2025 to Focus on Patriotism and Cultural Sovereignty

Ouagadougou: The National Center for Performing and Audiovisual Arts (CENASA) held a press conference to announce the Burkinabe Film Week (SeFiB) scheduled for December 7 to 14, 2025, in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference was chaired by the Director General of CENASA, Abraham Ouessena Abassague, along with the Director of Communication, Programming and Marketing, Damien Pierre Bamouni, and the Internal Controller, Malik Ouedraogo. They revealed the theme of this 4th edition: “Cinema and Revolution: Awakening of Consciousness and Sovereignty of Peoples”.

The Director General of CENASA emphasized that SeFiB 2025 is distinct from previous iterations due to its alignment with the patriotic education movement initiated by the Head of State, Comrade Captain Ibrahim Traore. He highlighted the aim of the event to promote values, raise awareness, and restore mentalities through a patriotic lens.

The event aims to promote national film production by highlighting Burkinabe directors, actors, and technicians. It provides a cultural platform between two editions of FESPACO, enabling film enthusiasts to experience the pan-African festival atmosphere in a family-friendly and educational setting.

The CEO of CENASA outlined that SeFiB 2025 will screen eight Burkinabe films with significant patriotic themes, expect to welcome around 15,000 film buffs, and focus on raising civic awareness among 1,500 young people. An eminent figure in national cinema will be honored during a special evening event.

An educational and interactive space will be established at the Espace Aere Amadou Balake to engage 3,500 young people through exhibitions, stands, and workshops related to film careers. The program will feature several key events, such as an evening tribute to a notable figure in Burkinabe cinema, screenings and discussions of impactful films, and a patriotic evening dedicated to works inspired by the Popular and Progressive Revolution.

The DG emphasized that this edition will not feature foreign films or competition, focusing exclusively on national productions, including some heritage films that will be showcased anew. He underscored the importance of showcasing Burkinabe films to children as a patriotic act.

To encourage participation, CENASA plans to provide student transportation through buses made available to schools. The Director General concluded by stressing the importance of fostering patriotic immersion through film, urging parents and educators to contribute to this endeavor.

SeFiB 2025 is positioned as a gathering for dialogue and collective engagement, inviting creators, institutions, media, and the public to celebrate cultural sovereignty and national pride. The event will take place at CENASA from December 7-14, 2025, dedicated to awareness, creativity, and Burkinabe patriotism.
