Tambi Park Security: People Arrested and Herds of Domestic Animals Seized

Baz¨ga: The Baz¨ga Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests (DPEF) conducted a surveillance and anti-poaching operation from October 9 to 13, 2025, in block 5 on the Baz¨ga side of the Kabore-Tambi National Park (PNKT). Results of the operation: people arrested and herds of domestic animals seized.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Kabore-Tambi National Park (PNKT), like many forest areas in Burkina Faso, is suffering repeated attacks on its integrity, including poaching, destruction of plant cover, and the intrusion of herds of domestic animals, among others.

Faced with this worrying situation, the local authorities in charge of the area have decided to act to secure and clear block 5 on the Baz¨ga side of the PNKT.

Under the leadership of the Commander of Water and Forests, Sanata Domo, Provincial Director of Water and Forests (DPEF) of Baz¨ga, the agents of the provincial directorate organized patrols with the assistance of the departmental water and forest services of the communes of Doulougou, Kombissiri, and Toece, following a regular pattern.

According to Ms. Domo, this initiative aims to prevent the PNKT from serving as a rear base for the enemy and to respond to the growing human pressure that threatens the ecological balance of the park.

These rigorously coordinated patrols combined deterrence, identity checks, searches, and data collection on observed offenses.

During the four days spent in the forest, the operation resulted in the seizure of three herds of cattle, totaling 99, and the forcing of 45 cattle out of the forest. In addition to these seizures, three people were arrested, and three reports were drawn up and acquitted.

The provincial director, Sanata Domo, satisfied with the results, congratulated her elements for this operation carried out in partnership with the integrated and sustainable management project of the landscape of the protected area of the Po-Nazinga-Sissili complex (PONASI/UNDP).

As a reminder, the PNKT is located between the provinces of Baz¨ga, Nahouri, and Zoundweogo in the Nazinon region, Sissili and Ziro in the Nando region, and Boulgou in Nakambe.
