José Ribeiro, from the Casa da Cultura da Assaca de Chess school in Sumbe, Cuanza-Sul province, won, this Wednesday, the first edition of the ‘ANGOP – 49 years’ tournament, with three points.
In second and third place were Osvaldo Henriques and Erickson Henriques, who scored two points each.
The tournament, played in quick matches, had the participation of six athletes from the Casa da Cultura da Assaca school.
To liven up ANGOP’s birthday party, the board had the pieces moved by the absolute national chess champion Gabriel Sapalo from the ENDE Cuanza-Sul nucleus, the president of the association of the sport, César Rodrigues, the athletes Firmino Pascoal (ENDE), Abrantes Pedro (Benfica do Sumbe), Kirton Justino da (ENDE) and the international master Abílio Ribeiro.
At the end, the winner of the event, José Ribeiro, praised the initiative of the ANGOP Delegation in Cuanza-Sul as it allowed the athletes in training to demonstrate their talent.
He said that he is working hard so that in the next National
Youth Championship he can become national champion.
The president of the Provincial Chess Association in Cuanza-Sul, César Rodrigues, was delighted with the holding of the first ANGOP-49 chess tournament, which could further contribute to the widespread use of the sport.
He said that he will work with ANGOP’s structures locally, so that an annual tournament is created in reference to October 30, the day the news organization was founded.
In turn, the ANGOP Cuanza-Sul delegate, Luís Catraio, was pleased with the athletes’ participation and the commitment shown.
‘We will work with the provincial chess association so that next year we can hold another tournament, thus promoting the ANGOP brand, which few people know about’, said Luís Catraio.
In addition to this sports-related activity, the company held a talk on the secrets of longevity and how to take care of vision for a media professional.
