CPDM Supporters in Buea Invite President Biya After Eleven-Year Hiatus

Buea: Members of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) Fako 3 section in Buea are urging their party chair, President Paul Biya, to visit the town eleven years after his last visit.

According to Cameroon News Agency, the call was made during the ceremonial event marking the 40th anniversary of the CPDM. Dr. Regina Wotani, the Women’s Wing president, appealed to President Biya to launch his 2025 presidential election campaigns in Buea, the capital of the South West region. President Biya’s last visit to Buea was in February 2014 for Cameroon’s reunification’s 50th anniversary, after which the town has reportedly seen little maintenance of its infrastructure.

The Tiko-Mutengene road leading to Buea and extending to Kumba is plagued with potholes. Additionally, the town deals with large heaps of waste and suffers from inconsistent electricity and water supply.

The 40th-anniversary event featured Prof. Nalova Lyonga, the Permanent Divisional Delegation head of the CPDM central committee for Fako and Minister of Secondary Education, as a special guest. She attended alongside the South West Governor, Okalia Bilai. The event provided a platform for members and supporters to highlight what they consider the achievements of the CPDM under President Biya’s leadership.

Prof. Nalova emphasized the transformation in the secondary education sector during Biya’s tenure. She noted an increase from less than 10 secondary institutions to 46 currently operating in the Fako division, comprising 31 grammar schools, 13 technical schools, and 2 teacher training colleges. She remarked that while President Biya might be advanced in age, his ideas remain vibrant.

Local party leaders also called for President Biya, now 92, to run as their presidential candidate in the upcoming October elections.
