Dr John Eleblu, the National Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for the North Tongu constituency, has officially submitted his nomination forms to contest the seat in the upcoming general elections.
The submission took place at the office of the Returning Officer, Mr. Elvis Jones Addo, of the Electoral Commission in the constituency.
Mr. Addo received the forms and assured Dr. Eleblu and his team that the Electoral Commission would ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
Dr. Eleblu expressed gratitude for the acceptance of his forms and pledged that the NPP would also work towards a peaceful election.
Dr. Eleblu highlighted the need for change in the constituency, citing poor road networks, lack of investment, and stagnant socioeconomic growth under the current Member of Parliament’s 12-year leadership.
He emphasized his commitment to boosting tourism and securing $500 million for constituency development if elected.
The North Tongu district Chief Executive, Mr. Divine Osborne Fenu, and
party officials pledged their support for Dr. Eleblu and the Presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and urged party members to campaign massively for the duo.
Dr Eleblu emerged as the winner of the NPP Parliamentary Primaries in the North Tongu constituency, securing 407 votes, while Mr Nkegbe David received 281 votes.
According to the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the 2020 parliamentary election results for the North Tongu constituency were: Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (NDC) – 21,078 votes (65.1%), Collins Ntim (NPP) – 10,361 votes (32.0%) and other candidates – 943 votes (2.9%)
Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the seat with 65.1% of the total votes cast.
