Entrepreneurial women, street vendors and peasants, from the 14 municipalities of Malanje, have been exhibiting since today, in this city, the agricultural potential of their respective areas of jurisdiction, at the Provincial Rural Women’s Fair, which aims to promote the province’s production.

The two-day event is being promoted by the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality and will feature 50 exhibitors, selling farm produce and various industrial goods.

The Fair takes place under the motto “Promoting the Economic and Sustainable Growth of Rural Women to Combat Hunger and Poverty” and also aims to increasingly encourage women to invest in agricultural activity and other income-generating activities in their communities.

At the opening of the event, the director of the Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development, Pedro Ginge, recognized the province’s agricultural potential, having praised the efforts of rural women in rural activities, towards the diversification of th
e country’s economy.

The Executive Branch has been developing policies for the production and distribution of goods from the countryside to the markets, which is why the Fair meets these expectations.

In turn, the director of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, Ema Massunga, said that the aim is to empower women in rural areas so that they can contribute to the country’s sustainable economic growth, taking into account the international commitments set out in the 2030 and 2063 agendas on gender and development.

Meanwhile, the deputy municipal administrator of Malanje for social and community matters, Aidnes Lameirão, was pleased with the level of production demonstrated, a fact that proves that women in the sector are capable of producing on a large scale to meet the needs of citizens.

The Fair is part of the celebrations of International Rural Women’s Day, celebrated on the 15th of this month.
