Angolan minister of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, highlighted Monday, in Huíla, the Executive’s engagement in strengthening family skills, in the rescue of moral values and in the socioeconomic empowerment of families.

The minister was speaking during the opening of the 24th Session of the National Family Council taking place in Lubango, Huila, under the motto “Family Strengthened Society Developed”.

Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto said that the State has paid particular attention to women, adolescents and young people, through the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion (MASFAMU).

The minister spoke of the implementation of a programme for Valuing the Family and Strengthening Family Skills, awareness actions, via the Jango de Valores project.

As part of the economic empowerment of families, she said that financial inclusion and literacy campaigns had been carried out, personal finance multipliers, opening of bank accounts and the attribution of Automatic Payment Terminals (APT).

The minister considered significant the results achieved with the actions, calling for the participation of all partners in mobilisation and awareness campaigns.

According to the official, social stability and the development of any country depend on peace and security in families, stating that everything begins in the family.

However, she invited parents, children, churches, civil society, among other actors, to work on strengthening the families so that they can have a developed society.

“The Executive, through MASFAMU, is working on drawing up a proposal for the National Action Plan on the Family in Angola that, in an inter-sector way, can respond to the various situations that affect families in Angola”, she said.

She said that in the context of the reform of justice and law, a process of revision of the Family Code is underway, which aims to keep up with the dynamics of life and increasingly defend the rights of families.

The municipal, provincial and national family councils, according to the minister, are an opportunity to reinforce the message of union, love and respect so that together, they can cultivate the spirit of tolerance and solidarity, with a view to establishing a good relationship among all family members.

The minister also defended the need to use the available mechanisms to raise awareness among the population about the importance of the family as a vital nucleus of society, to discuss their rights and responsibilities, as well as to promote knowledge related to issues social, economic and demographic conditions that affect it.

Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto pointed to the drama of family breakdown, the loss of fundamental values such as respect for life, solidarity, generosity, honesty, obedience and dialogue.

National Assembly will discuss and vote in generality on May 25 the Draft Law on Freedom of Assembly and Demonstration, a legislative initiative of the Parliamentary group of the opposition UNITA party.

The Bill is expected to respond to an imperative of democracy and to allow a truly effective implementation of the rule “Freedom of Assembly and Demonstration of Article 47 of the Constitution”.

On the other hand, approval of Draft Law will consolidate the constitutional transition to the democratic regime started in 1991.

The move will also create practical and effective mechanisms for the effective exercise of fundamental rights and for the consequent implementation of the Constitution and affirmation of the Democratic state.

Angola writer Jacques dos Santos on Saturday expressed concern about the delay in the implementation of the National Reading Plan in the country.

Speaking in an interview to ANGOP, the former MP spoke of the existing projects to help disseminate reading taste and of the lack of will to implement them.

“How long have we been hearing about the National Reading Plan? The projects exist, but they have been shelved for a long time,” Jacques dos Santos said.

He is of the view that if there was willingness, “the budgets allocated to education would be different, which could subsequently result in a switched posture of the Angolan Writers’ Association.

The National Reading Plan (PNL) is a strategy of the Angolan government to promote taste for reading and writing in children of pre-school and primary and secondary education.

The Ministry of Education intends, with this project, to meet the challenges of improving school performance in the fields of reading and writing.

The goal is also to facilitate access of school communities to cultural diversity and stimulate critical analysis through the involvement of the society and didactic material of varied authors and themes that children can read at school.

Flames reportedly engulfed the house of the Chief of Matta village, Saturday night breaking Sunday, May 14, in Magba sub-division, Noun Division of Cameroon’s West region, CNA gathered. Angry villagers allegedly burnt down the house and destroyed other properties he owned.

This happened after an alleged meeting with the Sultan of Bamoun, Nabil Mbombo Njoya.

According to statements from certain natives, the furious population decided to swallow forgiveness for the treachery, after videos and photos showed him smiling with Nabil Mbombo Njoya, Paramount ruler of Bamoun, whom they have always referred to as their son (our son).

The villagers added that it happened after he circulated audio messages on social networks, in which he defended himself by saying that his people forced him to write a letter of forgiveness as well as forced him to be smiling and happy to meet Nabil.

“His dismissal as chief of Matta village has been pronounced and several people are talking about a new village chief who will be chosen and enthroned in the day ahead.” Disclosed a notable.

Smiles evaporated from the faces of the people of Matta village since the young Nabil Mbombo Njoya became King of Bamoun, wherein their chief, old enough to be his father or grandfather was almost molested by the Bamouns for addressing Nabil their Sultan as “my son”. If this was correct to the people of Matta, it did not sound right and respectful in the ears of the Bamouns who expected Sultan Nabil to be addressed as King. This generated tension and fights between the two groups for some time.

The recent action of the Chief of Matta village has today been regarded by his subjects, as an unpardonable betrayal.

The remains of 27-year-old Bamenda-based journalist, Anye Nde Nsoh have been laid to rest at their family residence at Bagmande, Mankon in Bamenda, North West region.

The corpse of the young journalist was removed from the Bamenda regional hospital mortuary on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in the presence of some authorities, colleagues, family members, and friends who accompanied him to his final resting place.

Present at the hospital mortuary was the Senior Divisional Officer of Mezam division, Simon Emile Mooh who extended the heartfelt condolence message of the Governor to the late journalist’s family. He also accompanied the convoy to light up candles at the scene where Nde Nsoh was killed.

Present at the funeral service were colleagues and members of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, of which Nde Nsoh was a member since 2019.

While presenting a speech on behalf of members of the journalism association, Muma Jude, president of the Bamenda chapter described the late Nde Nsoh as a “committed, friendly and calm journalist” who would spend the whole day working with his colleagues and only goes home in the evening.

Late Anye Nde Nsoh was killed by gunmen on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at about 9:00 pm at Che Street in Bamenda, the chief town of the North West region. He was animating at a drinking spot before the armed men stormed the area and shot him dead.

It was later on Monday, May 8 that Ambazonian activist, Capo Daniel revealed in a live video that Nde Nsoh was shot dead by separatist fighters who in an attempt to shoot a Cameroonian military commander, ended the life of the journalist.

Capo said the case of the journalist was a “mistaken identity” though the media family and population described it as a “targeted killing” and another way to shut up the press on atrocities of separatist fighters in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.

Before his untimely death, Nde Nsoh was West and North West bureau chief of the Advocate newspaper. He was also a reporter for Dream Fm radio in Bamenda, City Fm radio, and a sports writer for kick442.com.

His passion and aspirations for sports led him to cover the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and other sporting events across Cameroon.

Nde Nsoh was an orphan and a lone child to his late parents. He leaves behind an 11-month-old daughter, family, colleagues, and friends to mourn him.

Christian mothers, women, and all mother figures have been hailed for their sacrifices towards the development of mankind and the wellbeing of society.

The Reverend Godson Gbloe, the Second Vice Chairman of the Great Commission Church International (GCCI), Ghana National Council, urged children to honour and celebrate and their mothers, which would ensure they (children) received divine favours and blessings.

Speaking at the 2023 Mother’s Day Celebration of GCCI Maranatha Assembly in Tema, Rev Gbloe reiterated the need to celebrate mothers because of the important roles they play in the body of Christ.

He advised men to honour and celebrate their wives as the mothers of their children.

‘I appeal to men to love their wives and to take good care of them by treating them well and supplying whatever they need,’ he said.

Rev. Gbloe advised mothers to actively engage the word of God in solving problems at home and help their husbands in the upbringing of children in the fear of God.
