What Nigerians need to know about Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment Programme

Roseau, July 13, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Nigeria is currently facing economic challenges, despite having the largest economy in Africa. The country’s debt grew a staggering 500 per cent under the former President, Muhammadu Buhari. The World Bank revised Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) earlier this year, in the recent Nigeria Development Update (NDU).

The NDU report is released biannually by the World Bank and evaluates Nigeria’s current economic and social developments and long-term prospects on a global scale. The report also focuses on Nigeria’s economic and policy issues and analyses medium-term development challenges.

These economic and political challenges are causing Nigerian citizens to face great uncertainty, many of whom are hoping to see positive changes with the new president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Nigerians are continuously seeking alternative methods to protect themselves and their families’ future, and one economical way of achieving this can be through the investment migration industry. Several factors influence Nigerians’ choices in selecting a host country’s CBI programme. Nigerians desire their dual citizenship to ensure economic and political stability in a host country that creates safety and security for both personal and business activities.

The Commonwealth of Dominica offers Nigerians opportunities that include encouraging and supporting business growth and a family-friendly environment.

Nigerians can access these opportunities through Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme and obtain dual citizenship in exchange for contributing investments towards one of the programme’s investment options. There are additional requirements when applying for dual citizenship, which include background and due diligence checks that may have additional fees applied.

Access to quality healthcare and educational facilities is important for Nigerians and their families, these facilities have international standards that offer advanced medical practices and schools that encourage further studies in Dominica or anywhere else around the world.

Dominica’s dual citizenship has one of the most affordable CBI programmes in the Eastern Caribbean region.

How do Nigerians benefit from Dominica’s CBI Programme?

Dual citizenship is a key to opening possibilities that come with Dominica’s dual citizenship, Nigerians can become part of the greater global community and increase their chances of ease of access to global markets that they were unable to previously.

Dominica is an English-speaking country, making it easier to communicate with the locals and with the Government of Dominica.

Nigerians can establish their businesses and expand their existing business ventures in Dominica. This will open more possibilities for creating permanent jobs and support local entrepreneurs with their small businesses.

Dominica offers offshore financial services to Nigerians who want to make international transactions and remittances back home. The CBI programme forms avenues for wealth management services and opportunities to protect assets and generational wealth.

The country also has many projects that are currently running through Dominica’s CBI, which will yield profitable results in their developing stages once completed, these will support the economic development of the country and improve the livelihoods of all citizens.

Nigerians can visit and live in Dominica with their family members whom they had applied for dual citizenship. Dominica is a tropical island paradise with picturesque landscapes and endless leisure activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Nigerian applicants are not required to undergo a series of exams to apply, nor do they need to live in Dominica for some time to qualify for dual citizenship.

Investment options available for dual citizenship

Nigerians can choose from the Economic Diversification Fund or Dominica’s Real Estate investment options. These investment options are also efficient for large families.

The Economic Diversification Fund (EDF) is a non-refundable contribution towards financially supporting private or public initiatives in Dominica. LGBTQ is evil and abominable to our values – National House of Chiefs

The National House of Chiefs has served notice that it would not countenance activities of the LGBTQ community as custodians of the traditions and customs of the people.

‘LGBTQ is evil and abominable to our cultural values and we, the chiefs as the custodians of the customs and tradition of our people wish to state categorically that our traditions recognise that God created man and woman to occupy the earth and procreate.

There is therefore only male and female gender. The Bible and the Quran affirm this fact hence it is an abomination against all our cultural values to allow others to import into our country anything contrary to our customs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the House, stated this at a meeting in Kumasi.

He said, ‘We the chiefs and our subjects declare that we will not allow any group to propagate any cause, conduct or behaviour called LGBTQ+ or similar in Ghana.’

Ogyeahoho Gyebi said the practice was not only immoral but also an affront and infringement on cherished Ghanaian cultural values and called on the relevant national institutions to take the necessary steps to nib it in the bud.

‘We call on all Ghanaians to support the chiefs in upholding the decency and sacredness of our culture, values and traditions,’ he said.

The President also spoke on other national issues including illegal mining, chieftaincy disputes, Green Ghana Initiative, and urged chiefs to complement the efforts of the government in addressing them.

Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, said LGBTQ was alien to Ghanaians and that he was personally opposed to it.

‘We will do everything to protect our tradition and make sure we do not buy into any tradition that is alien to us’ he assured.

He applauded the chiefs for the important role they continue to play in national development and assured them of the government’s commitment to work closely with them for the collective good of the people.

‘You are not only providing traditional leadership but also a partner in promoting peace, democracy and good governance,’ he said.

Come to Damongo for best tourist experience-Abu Jinapor

Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has called on Ghanaians and foreign tourists to visit the Damongo constituency as it is arguably one of the best tourist destinations in northern Ghana.

The constituency is made up of 104 towns, villages and communities with several sites of historical significance, awe-inspiring landscapes, and cultural diversity.

Mr Jinapor averred that the constituency was an exceptional destination for tourists seeking to immerse themselves in the beauty and traditions of Ghana and West Africa.

Mr Jinapor made a case for tourist visitation to the Damongo constituency when he made a statement on the floor of Parliament.

‘Tourism offers a glimpse into our history, culture and nature, and thus should not be reserved for foreigners alone.

‘There are several tourist attractions in the country, which if well patronised, will contribute substantially to our national economy,’ Mr Jinapor stated.

The Minister noted that tourism had become a major boost for many countries in Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Rwanda and Zambia.

On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, President Akufo-Addo commissioned the renovated and modernised Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, with a commitment to make Ghana the tourism hub of West Africa.

Mr Jianpor said the Nkrumah Memorial Park initiative, coupled with others like the ‘Year of Return’ and ‘Beyond the Return,’ showed the government’s commitment to promoting tourism in the country.

Highlighting some of the tourist attractions in the Damongo constituency, Mr Jinapor mentioned the Larabanga Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Africa, mostly referred to as ‘the Mecca of West Africa.’

The over 600-year-old mosque is said to have been built by one Ayuba after Allah had revealed to him in a dream to build a mosque, which Allah himself had already laid the foundation.

Inside the Mosque is an ancient Qur’an believed to have been delivered by Allah to the Imam of the Mosque in 1650.

Mr Jinapor also mentioned the Mystic Stone, also located at Larabanga.

According to legend, when the colonial administration was constructing a road through Larabanga, the contractor removed the stone but came back the next day to find the stone returned to its previous position, and when this persisted, the contractor was compelled to divert the road and left the stone in its position, which has remained there till date.

Other tourist sites in the area included the Mognori Eco Village, a community-based tourism project in Mognori, which provides a range of tourist activities such as guided nature walks, traditional drumming and dancing, and handicraft demonstrations.

The Mole National Park, being the first largest and most prestigious biodiversity-protected area in Ghana, hosts a variety of plant and animal species, including elephants, buffalos, lions, monkeys, and other endangered species.

The park also hosts West Africa’s first luxury safari lodge, the Zaina Lodge, which provides top-notch hospitality services with a unique cultural touch to visitors to the park and its catchment areas.

Damongo, which serves as the capital of the constituency in the Savannah Region, was also the Gonja Kingdom, and hosts the famous Jakpa Skin, exuding cultural richness, and offering patrons a rich cultural and historical experience of the Gonja people.

The people celebrate the Damba and Fire festivals.

The MP for Damongo believed that the centrality of the constituency made it an exceptional place to lodge and connect with other parts of northern Ghana.

Mr. Jinapor thanked President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, the Minister of Tourism for paying special attention to tourism and called on everyone to patronise those tourist sites for rare life experience.

Seek permission before using folklore expressions for commercial purposes – Folklore Board

The National Folklore Board (NFB) has urged the populace to seek permission from the Board before using expressions of folklore outside the customary context and or for commercial purposes.

It said all commercial users of Ghanaian expressions of folklore must pick up folklore user application forms from the NFB office to be given the requisite permission.

‘In alternative, you can send a written request for application form to [email protected].’

Ghana’s folklore includes music, dance, art, design, names, signs and symbols, performances, ceremonies, architectural forms, handicrafts and narratives and any other artistic or cultural expression originating from and or associated with Ghana.

In a release issued to the Ghana News Agency, on Thursday, in Accra, the Board said the Copyright Act, 2005, ACT 690 specified that the rights in folklore were vested in the President on behalf of and in trust for the people of the Republic.

It said the Act also stated that a person who sought to use folklore outside the scope permitted by Section 19 of the Act must seek permission from the National Folklore Board.

The statement said personal use, news reportage and use for educational purposes did not require permission.

‘The personal use of Ghanaian folklore and or use within the customary context does not require permission from the Board. For instance, use of proverbs by Ghanaian musicians in a song or sale of Kente cloth for a living.’

The release said according to section 44 of the Copyright Act 2005 ‘Act 690’, a person who sold, offered or exposed for sale or distribution a work of folklore without permission from the Board committed an offence and liable upon summary conviction to a maximum fine of 1000 penalty units equivalent to GHC 12,000 and or imprisonment for a maximum of three 3 years, or both.
